After recently sifting through the bile-inducing CD collection at a popular music outlet I have come to the realisation that many of the best artists/bands in the country do not have commercially available albums (yet?)
I have also come to the conclusion that KZN features some of the most outrageously talented signed and unsigned performers in South Africa. Just 2 of the astounding gems that Durban currently has on offer are singer Cornel Meyer and band Catlike Thieves.

Cornel Meyer is a Durban based singer-songwriter who is also an accomplished self-taught guitarist.

At age 15 Meyer got his first job as an assistant surf coach – working for Quiksilver and teaching beginner classes.

Not seriously pursuing a career in the arts until the age of 17 he exploded onto the local music scene by performing gigs at many well-known venues throughout KZN and often sharing the stage with the likes of Roly Struckmeyer, Rob Warren, Syd Kitchen and Dave McMillan.

With a target audience that ranges from teenagers to the almost-geriatric Cornel’s music, influenced by Jack Johnson, Dave McMillan, Bob Dylan, Sublime and Damien Rice makes for easy listening that is suited to an array of venues including pubs, night clubs and even coffee shops or wedding receptions.

With a bright future ahead of him we can expect nothing but sheer brilliance from this
exceptionally talented young man and it will only be a matter of time before this Durban based looker has his poster plastered on many a teenage girl’s wall!

Rocking their way onto the local music scene since early 2008, Catlike Thieves have since become a very sought after rock band nationwide.

Comprising of Shane (vocals & acoustic guitar), Justin (lead guitar &vocals), Gareth (bass guitar & vocals) and Philip (drums) the Thieves offer a top class act influenced by the likes of AC/DC, Incubus, Yellowcard as well as Greenday, New Found Glory and even the Beach Boys.
Enjoying the privelage of playing with some of SA’s leading acts including Zebra & Giraffe and the Parlotones the Catlike Thieves are turning heads wherever they go. Having already recorded a remarkable 4 track EP the rockers are currently busy recording their debut album which is sure to be nothing but mind-blowing.
If it is stylish entertainment you seek then the Catlike Thieves are sure to deliver. It is however recommended that you keep your children locked away as they have been found guilty of stealing the hearts of fans nationwide!
